Histoire résumée | Premier vol en février 1937. When the Akaflieg developed the FS-16, they wanted to build a sailplane with good flight performance that was safe and simple to fly. Because of the need for this glider they had to do that without time consuming research and major innovations. Thus a self-supporting high wing glider with a wing span of 16m was designed. Because of the good experience with the lifted up rear fuselage of the F.1 this shape was retained. The wing tip panels of the "Fledermaus" didn't improve the flight qualities in the desired way so the fuselage was extended and built with a fin. The arrangement of skid and spur was modified to relief the fuselage during unclean landings. For a better efficiency the ailerons got a greater depth and their hinges were fixed directly to the spar. The ailerons are made of Dural-Aluminium to test light metal for use in sailplane construction. | ||||||
