| Histoire résumée | Original AVo 68-S designed by Alwin Lehner built in 1970s. Named for Kenyan tribe. New AVo 68-R variant, using converted AVo 68-S D-KFGN (c/n 024) as prototype, developed by Nitsche Flugzeugbau and first flew March 1995, retaining original landing gear of single nosewheel. Second prototype converted from AVo 68-S D-KALO (029), incorporating new twin leg landing gear design. First production AVo 68-R D-KSAM, with turbocharged and intercooled Rotax 914 engine, lengthened and widened fuselage and new canopy design, exhibited unflown at Aero '99 at Friedrichshafen in April 1999; first flight shortly thereafter. Programme transferred to Aircraft Philipp in 2001, but discontinued almost immediately thereafter. Production restarted by M+D in 2005; first aircraft (D-KMUD) first flown 25 January 2008. | ||||||
