Histoire résumée | This sailplane was produced in LETOV Factory from Ljubljana, Slovenia ,later renamed LIBIS and produced LIBIS line of two seat gliders. In the sixties Letov 22 was standard basic trainer across Yugoslavia. One or two single seat Letov 21 trainers were produced , to replace then outdated Cavka (Crow) gliders, but without success.
Letov 22 has welded steel tube fuselage ,strut braced wood wing and central mounted landing wheel with skid on front . Instructor's seat was under the wings. Torsion box ,horizontal and vertical stabilizators were plywood covered. Rest of wings ,ailerons and rudders were fabric covered. I like this glider , in our old 34 one calm late afternoon I bounced behind a Kurir (Courier ) tow plane trying to manage my first solo , and anytime when I was seating in his spacious cockpit, looking trough rakish windshield ,with all strut and air brake noises around ,during final turns and touch down, made me a small Walter Mitty flying combat glider.
